Tbf I’m pretty sure if they stopped the vehicle the bomb would have reached them sooner, if they piled out it likely would have turned the vehicle to shrapnel before they got far enough away to then safely surrender.

And I’m not sure the drone operator had enough time to even register the signal and change the direction of the drone. Human reaction time is about .5sec from decision to action, and on top of that add “is that even within the realm of possibility for drone maneuverability,” it honestly kinda seems like they were just fucked on timing.

Aircraft are generally not required to accept surrender unless it is apparent that the surrendering soldiers have removed themselves from the conflict (disarmed) and are headed toward your lines (intent to give up). Even then it’s a judgment call if the aircraft is incapable of escorting them to nearby ground troops who can accept their surrender and take them into custody. That’s why you see videos of unarmed soldiers making the surrender gestures and they still get taken out by the drone. They’re too far behind enemy lines to facilitate taking them prisoner.

The explosives used on those drones are far from enough to turn a whole vehicle into shrapnel. If they bailed out and laid on the ground they likely would have been uninjured. But think from their perspective, you could jump out and run away hoping the drone chases someone else, or you could stay in the truck and maybe out run it. The psychological horror of modern drone warfare has never been seen before and we will likely see the scars well into the future.

Well I suppose idk about that specific one but I have seen videos kamikaze style drones that did indeed turn vehicles into shrapnel, especially small light ones like that thing (not like tanks but those truck things or the ATVs all day). Half the time they’re just an rpg-7 grenade duct taped to the drone, RPGs can 100% produce shrapnel from that truck, it’s not an m-80.

But yeah, try and outrun it, or hope whatever shrapnel is produced by the shrapnel-producing bomb itself striking the truck and the shrapnel that used to be attached to said truck before a bomb hit it misses an artery or vital organ, and then hope the follow up drones see your white flag, basically the two options they had it seems.
