FYI, while quite a few of the cashiers at Home Depot don’t care, you have to register for Veterans discounts on their website. (Sometimes, the head cashier will just check your ID and bypass the check for you, but they aren’t supposed to.)
It’s limited to $500 in discounts per year now since they had a ton of jackasses gaming the system. I have mixed feelings about that, but it is what it is.
Some have told me that, but they always just waive it for me. How does registering work? They have like a database of everyone who’s verified as a vet?
Yeah, it’s kinda silly. They do keep a database and you are supposed to register here: https://www.homedepot.com/c/military
Since I know people that work at HD, the back story is that the problem was actually with contractors trying to stack military discounts for bulk orders. Builders were trying to abuse their employees vet status in some of the extreme cases.
For the common customer, it’s one of the reasons the general cashiers don’t care about the registration.
Or when the bar tender gives you a free shot of cheap whiskey. That’s when you look back and think it was all worth it.
I never got that feeling of it all being worth it. However, those free shots did help with the development of my budding alcoholism back in the day. That is the real American dream!
