The situation where a candidate is rejected because they don’t have relevant experience is often decided by people who don’t have that experience either. The last thing I want is a job where I immediately know how to do it. That’s often the reason to leave - it’s boring and not a challenge any more.
The market is probably flat right now and that’s the reason there’s no jobs. You have to hang in there for a bit and wait for an upturn.
Makes sense from a financial point of view. I tend to do extensive research before a big purchase and wouldn’t want to be changing cars too often.
From an energy and pollution point of view it makes sense to buy quality and maintain the vehicle over a long time period.

It wasn’t that long ago that nobody drove cars to school. This is probably a complete non issue in places like the Netherlands. I was banned from bringing my daughter to school on a bike because they reckoned it was dangerous. The irony that cars were allowed past the gates but not bicycles was lost along the way. I kept doing it anyway because fuck cars.

Describe the work you are doing and the equipment you use. Talk about the fact that you have received training to use this equipment. You don’t need to say anything else. If your next employer wants you to be certified on their particular machines they will train you.

The best way to overcome all the toxic elements of adversarial gaming is to play cooperative games. This style previously did not exist but has become popular in recent years. This is the home of car culture and it’s the reason the climate change movement has seen such little traction. 80% of this problem could be solved by a decent intercity rail network combined with light rail and cycle paths in the densely populated areas. Sometimes a car is the only solution but everything looks like a nail when your only tool is a hammer.
The EU is generally a positive influence in the tech sector but I can’t understand supporting mass surveillance. Isn’t this the exact opposite of what they were trying to achieve with GDPR? Are they only opposed to spying when someone else is doing it?
I like them used sparingly. There’s art to using just the right emoji in the right spot that conveys a message in a way that is difficult to achieve with text.
LED technology has progressed massively and is now at the state where you can carry a device with the lighting power of a car headlamp but it only consumes 10W, weighs 200g and fits in the palm of your hand. I can ride my bike through the woods at night, as if it were daytime. All we need now is some technology that makes the woods less creepy after sundown and we’ll be all set.
Another big one for me is Wikipedia and the information sphere in general. I forgot what it’s like to have to physically go to a library to look something up or learn a new skill, amazing power at our fingertips. Showing my age a bit here.
What else? Computer aided engineering tools, cordless power tools, phones and computers in general, lithium ion batteries, my automated coffee maker kills it, drug technology, I like it all.
Notepad++ is also great for searching text strings in many documents and collating the results in a single window.
