I am not annoyed by Lemmy’s constant glitches. It adds to the charm of the place.
Lemmy is a volunteer effort. You want everything to run corporate-smooth, that’s ‘X’ and TikTok and Reddit.
Old, large, cranky. Gotta go to the bathroom.
Also, that picture isn’t me.

I can’t even get past the user interface at Discord. Rarely have I felt so uninvited to participate, even as the site aggressively invites me to participate.
Same place on desktop. It’s kinda easy to miss, though, so thanks for the nudge.
Excellent questions, solid answers, both are appreciated, and I leave smarter than when I arrived. Thanks.
Eeek. Hadn’t noticed the toxicity, but with 6,000 readers I suppose some have to be idiots. Have another :).
More than everything else, peace of mind. No worries about the condition and repairs and maintenance of a $40K hunk of metal and glass, or about accidents, injuries, insurance, parking, the idiot in the other lane, the price of gas, or anything else.
My bus comes at 7:45, la-di-da. :)
Start with taxing cars wherever public transit is a reasonable alternative, then raise the rates annually, and pretty soon most cars will band themselves.
Just a pipe dream, of course…
The article sorta hints at it, and my half-ass guess is that it was more practical to dig the Canal to a certain depth and pump more water in to make it ‘deeper’, than dig to depths adequate for huge ships they perhaps wouldn’t have envisioned in 1904.
Assuming each lock is effectively watertight, that’s fairly clever engineering, but it assumes a perpetual supply of water.
Disclaimer: I’m a high school dropout, so wutdefuquedoIknow?
Got rid of my car a month ago, and I’m happier without it.
This is my test post
You passed the test. :) Welcome to Lemmy.
Been here for almost two months now, and this is home. That other place, I visit only to follow a few old friends who aren’t here yet.
Lemmy has lower volume, but noticeably higher quality comments, not counting this one.
Thank you — I just filled out the survey and added “Please close the street in front of the market to cars; it simply shouts PEOPLE ARE SECONDARY HERE and also it stinks up the place.”
There’s a small park near my house that cannot be access from the street without walking across its parking lot. No sidewalk or trail entry, only a driveway.
For an improved streetcar or rapid transit line, absolutely use eminent domain.
I’ve never been to Massachusetts and hate IHOP, but eminent domain troubles me. It ought to be used rarely, and only for projects that undeniably build a better community.
A frickin’ parking garage does not merit taking by eminent domain.
Also (sorry, but old guy here) the nozzle sometimes unexpectedly sprays sideways. It’s no worry if you’re sitting down, but if you’re standing up you might’ve just wet your pants… or the pants of the unlucky schmoe at the neighboring urinal.
