Katatonia… Devin Townsend… Hangman’s Chair… Pallbearer
I guess these aren’t really death metal. But they all crush, IMHO.
(I ain’t got much else… I’ve grown to love the growl!)
I’m in my 40s… similar to you, used to eat fast food often, and enjoyed it. I was having a horrible day a couple weeks ago, and thought “fuck it… I’m eating at McDs.” It was disgusting, not like I remembered it all.
Yes, exactly. If you live in a solid blue or red state, your vote is a drop in the bucket, so it won’t matter if you vote third party. But in swing states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania… in 2016, the number of votes won by Jill Stein was slightly greater than the difference between Trump/Clinton. Ouch! Was it worth it? Did it move the country left?
Yep. My parents are in their own echo chamber of Fox news and other 80-year-old racist fucks, and anything you try to say bounces off them with the basic formula you outlined. Actual external logic doesn’t matter. The wild thing is how big that echo chamber has gotten.
a good dropperful of liquid vitamin D is good for me once a week. make sure it’s enough – the typical recommended daily values (at least in the US) are pretty low.
I’ve been reading The Recognitions (by William Gaddis) for months and I’m ready to be done with it. It’s brilliantly written, but it’s long and difficult in parts. So I’m kind of speed-reading the last 1/4 of it just because I’m losing steam. Don’t get me wrong… it’s a great book!
lol! I jokingly thought of that song when I clicked in here. Definitely the most catchy thing around rn.
The Gold Bug Variations is one of my favorite music-themed books.
oof, me too. :/
“how bout a round of Gwent” answer to everything
and inspired C#, which is pretty rad! (humble opinion… preparing for downvotes because I don’t get the feeling lemmy is where M$ devs hang out)
Interesting, I just finished this book. I tried it in high school, it seemed profound at the time, but I couldn’t finish it. Now I’m an older software dev and it was much easier to read this time around, but I feel like I missed something. Did Hofstatder gloss a bunch of stuff in the final couple of chapters? Or did I just fail to grasp all the strange loop stuff and put it together on my own? Not sure. I still enjoyed it, and it gave me some good ways of conceptualizing brains, minds, thoughts, etc. Especially the ant colony stuff.
Nice, thanks for the recommendation! I will check out the podcast.
Still working my way through Gravity’s Rainbow, my 3rd time ever. This time I’m using a companion/guidebook and it’s definitely helping me get even more out of it. This has been my favorite book for a long time, and still is!
Same! Hell, I run it on mostly-ultra, as I prefer image quality to frames most of the time. (also, I’m not 4k or anything… Just an old 1080p 60hz monitor)
Awesome, I just bought a used copy of “one hundred years…” Looking forward to reading it!
Ooh I liked that one too!
Yo, I started FNV for my first time this week! A friend of mine is always raving about it, so he sent me instructions to get it all modded out (Viva New Vegas modlist), so I did that and I’m off to the races. So far so good… it was a bit of a grind to get past the first couple of quests (I kept getting my ass handed to me), but now that I’ve killed some convicts and stolen their stuff, I’m in much better shape. Also I figured out I can sleep in beds that aren’t red.
I also heard that about not getting involved with factions yet…
