I can only recommend Our Changing Climates take on this: “Are Men Killing the Planet?”
The title is inflammatory, yes, but it’s a great video that drives home the point of masculine insecurity and a “dominance of nature” spurs a lot of the “masculine” stereotype behind trucks and SUVs.
Piped (see the bot)
Did you miss the part where OP said this was in Dubai? I don’t think the commenter you’re replying to carries that view.
In Saudi Arabia, for example, it is illegal to carry sex toys or alcohol even when transiting.
Control + Arrows also moves your text cursor by whole words. Combine it with shift and you can easily select a bunch of text without the mouse.
Another one that took me far too long to learn: Shift + Tab will do the same thing as tab (next element) in reverse
Not hot but „lauwarm“ or „lukewarm“ is very typical for same day fresh potato salad
At least down here in the south
This but I just gave them my email to let me know when bands I like are in my area. Super easy to use and very reliable. Even has tiny shows in community centers listed for me
Makes sense, thanks for the explanation
lol why not just not use the middle mouse button? Did you remap it to something else?
Yep, it’s very clear. Far right parties are growing, conservatives are running after them trying to keep their voters by using more and more populist tactics, often crossing the line to keep up with far-right talking points, since they can’t keep their voters with their status-quo, corporations-first policies that they’ve been pushing for decades.
Almost explicitly so, free speech for those who want to scream the N-word and (shadow/) bans for pro-union posters and those critical of musk
Very much so, the Bavarian Conservative Party literally has gone to have talks with republicans to use their election strategies, the German-wide AgD has ramped up their Anti-LGBT campaigning and started to use similar messaging to far-right propaganda networks, e.g. “protect our children”, “pedophiles”, photoshopped images of CSAM at pride events, etc.
As a kid (maybe 6-8) at the beach. My dad was on the shore and I waded out and kept going further and further, until the sand bank fell off and I dropped what felt like 5m underwater and couldn’t find my way back. I wasn’t a bad swimmer but panic set in and I got disoriented. Felt like I was treading water for 15 minutes but it was more like 3 until a family friend saw what was happening and made it out to me to pull me back to the shore.

Fuck me sideways I had no idea I actually liked microblogging until I got on Mastodon. I always thought “Twitter just wasn’t my kind of site” but I really really enjoy Mastodon
And chronically underpaid and underfunded. Where I live there are over (or near, can’t quite remember) a thousand children waiting for spots. These are children (mostly from poorer families) that are missing out on important education and socialization.
I deleted the other comment first, when I realized I didn’t reply to the comment asking for more info, and then posted this. Perhaps something fucky with how lemmy served the page to you or deleted the post?
Bit of a longer TLDR including context, I’ll call it a TLDDD (too long, didn’t deep dive):
Doreen was a moderator of /r/antiwork, she went on Fox News to present the subreddit and why it was so interesting to so many. This wasn’t agreed upon by the community or the other moderators.
Fox immediately tried to frame it as people just sucking off the teat of “corporate america” and not wanting to work. In reaction to this, Doreen failed to actually make any arguments that a Fox News viewer would understand and even played directly into the propagandist’s hands by using out of context philosophies like “laziness is a virtue” and saying that she worked as a dog walker.
On top of this, Doreen was incredibly unpresentable in the video and looked like your average, basement-dwelling netizen, sitting in a dimly lit room with a 2010s webcam. For the right-wingers at fox, she was the perfect image of what they imagine leftists to be like:
Here’s a screenshot from the interview to give you an idea of what I mean by unkempt and unpresentable
Yeah, I assumed as much so I just made a Beetlejuice joke
