3·1 year agoI finished Laika : Aged through blood. An indie metroidvania / 2d bike shooter / bullet time.
And i can say that it is, damn amazing!
It’s the story of a mother in a post-apocalyptic environment having to care for her daughter and village while doing the war outside.
Everything, art, music, is a masterpiece. The music is just extremely good.
Outside of special zones, there are 20 you have to find, and it cycles between them. All 20 are voice, with words or humming.
The story is good, and is extremely anti-war.
The gameplay feels amazing. It can be hard at first, but I quickly learned how to control the bike and and to do backflips and frontflips at the right time to reload guns and the pary.
The main character laika is one-shot, but the game isn’t very punishing. The respawn points aren’t too far away from each other, and they are optional. When you die, you loose a pouch with the currency, and can get it back.
There are some little issues with the game tho. It doesn’t tell that combo rewards more currency from enemies (it’s a timed combo, sho shooting will either increase or refresh the combo, and shooting flying bodies increases the combo up to 2 more times). The ending seems to also be a bit rushed. The ending boss isn’t that difficult, and there were some cuts it seems.
But overall these little issues aren’t that bad, and the game is still amazing.
2·1 year agoAmd and nvidia both claim to check that displays support the required features to apply the logo.
However as Monitor Unboxed (Hardware Unboxed second channel) said, there is plenty of trash monitors, freesync or gsync.
It’s amd’s side of Nvidia’s gsync, but with a different way of working.
Both do about the same thing : match the monitor hz to the fps, in a range of minimum and maximum hz.
So if your game is doing 103fps and monitor can do 40-144hz. The monitor will match 103hz.
It reduces tearing and can maybe reduce the perception of lag. It doesn’t remove it. If you have frame drops you will still see them.
For the ur way of working :
-Gsync uses a physical chip in the monitor to do what it has to do. In addition of beeing a paid technology, it adds to the cost, and nvidia also does a quality control check on the monitors, which also increases costs. Gsync can only be used with nvidia gpus.
- Freesync on the other hand is free (no royalties). Not sure if amd does a quality control or spec control, but they introduced some years ago freesync ranks. Where to get a higher rank of freesync the monitor has to larch or do better than some specs (https://community.amd.com/t5/gaming/introducing-amd-freesync-premium-and-amd-freesync-premium-pro/ba-p/414261). It can be used on nvidia (still called gsync in the driver) or amd gpus.
There are some limitations with these tho, they can only be used with display port 1.4+(or 1.2+, i don’t remember) or hdmi 2.1+ because of variable refresh rate support. Except for amd gpus and freesync. Amd gpus support freesync with older hdmi versions.
8·1 year agoI don’t understand some things in the water consumption.
Why do they need to humidify the air for the datacenter?
Why is there water consumption for cooling? Aren’t they recirculating water used for watercooling? Or are they using f*ing tap water then throwing it out?
Water for electricity production, kinda, yes. Could be indirectly attributed to their water consumption as they are using the electricity produced by the sources using water.
Rather push by Microsoft instead of Google?
I find Lemmy works pretty well for a decentralised network.
It is possible to see what everyone has been subscribed to when sorting by all, and so subscribe myself to it to get it in my subscription feed.
There are nice apps like Liftoff which can manage multiple accounts at the same time, and even view instances all feed without an account on them.
Mastodon on the other hand is a bit lackluster in comparison I’d say. The subscription model is pretty had to start using as I need to either find # or people to subscribe to, and even subscribing to them. And even after doing that the posts aren’t that interesting or feel empty due to no comments/likes/boost.
Maybe I subscribed to the wrong #, but I find Lemmy much more enticing than mastodon.
4·1 year agoI recently finished Grime (I got it for free on EGS). Not 100% tho.
A metroidvania with lots of difficulty to it.
Tho I found it to be a great game, but not amazing.
The bosses have great music and a beautiful design, they offer a great challenge, and often a respoin point is close enough to not be an annoyance.
There was some (multiple) places where area music was absent, and seemed sketchy.
Weapon balance is, well not that great, due to stamina. The game heavily pushes towards using low stamina consumption weapons, which also attack fast and do low damage per hit.
Higher damage per hit weapons are slower and use more stamina which is very punishing.
The inability to change the mouse binds is also a disappointment. Tho good thing I had ghub to create macros for the game and allow me to change those.
Don’t know, not using ublock origin. I use enhancer for YouTube on Firefox, and still not seeing any pop up.
Tho I have it set to allow ads for subscribed channels. Tho the setting seems bugged as a feature where most video ads get blocked, but some of them still run sometimes at the start of the video. The square adds on the side aren’t blocked either, but they are not a hindrance.
61·1 year agoIt works on the website. But some (or many) apps don’t seem to use the tag.
KBM. As I played on a keyboard and mouse since so long, I lost the usage of controllers. And whenever I have to use controlers, it’s a bit of a pain. So I don’t, as much as possible.
Tho in some games I tried, like elite dangerous, I had to use a controler for movement as on keyboard it was painfully slow, or too fast, but also just to be able to use most of the controls.
Well the battery in my phone lasted longer than my laptop. The difference : one stayed a long time at 100% the other one is constantly pliged and unplugged with 100%-20%-80%…, but also battery tech and management would be different (maybe).
Letting the battery at 100% stresses it and does degrade it with time, charging and discharging also degrades it. But it would be better for the battery health to keep it in the 80-20%.
However if it is easier to let the device plugged in, maybe check if it can run without a battery, and if not maybe it can be changed? Tho not sure if you can find replacement in some years.
Tho maybe the battery station could also be designed to stay at high charge? It isn’t the easiest thing to know how it works and how it is designed.
Warframe and grime.
The update coming to warframe mid October solves a lot of qol issues and should make it one of the bets mmorpg grind game.
I’m not that sure about 16gb for gaming nowadays. Games are starting to explode in ram and vram usage. With windows on the side and plenty of other apps in the background, I was pretty close to the limit while running a vm with 16gb of memory on a 32gb ram setup, while running warframe (The game was using 5-5.5gb of memory).
Tho running Linux, can reduce that memory usage.
You don’t really need to upgrade. But for a new pc, 32gb is advised for anything gaming.
For other things like content creation or work with the computer other than basic computing, I don’t really know. It would change depending on what someone needs to so with the computer.
I have no real idea, only suppositions :
(I’m not treating Ukraine as the enemy, this is a full supposition).
The real hard part is costs and time. If the soldiers pushed the front lines, and there is no risk of enemy attacks behind the line, there can be multiple things in the way :
The terrain may not always be good for fast travel. With difficult terrains or mud and water.
And because front lines aren’t perfect, there is always the risk of enemy attack behind, destroying supplies.
Now why exactly Russia did not send supplies to their soldiers, no real idea. They only know what they chose to do.
Ukraine is huge, giant. Going up to the front lines takes time and money. And well I very much guess that Russia just sent soldiers without care, maybe even now they doing that. They underestimated Ukrakne’s defenses and the support they get from other countries.
Good thing I can block them just from their post. Some Lemmy apps are cool.

I don’t remember the name, but it’s a full bloatware app, which still has some use on laptops tho.
But for a display is a total trash app.
It has less settings than the display, while overwriting them with whatever settings are available (the app doesn’t even have custom rgb levels…).
With advertising for nvidia GeForce now. With settings for nvidia…(I have an amd gpu…). System management which requires special drivers… And other s*
