Not a sentient pile of alley cats in a trench coat. You ask a lotta questions.

All the arguments were had here: https://sh.itjust.works/post/11011288
edit: and the subsequent vote where we decided to defederate: https://sh.itjust.works/post/11308397
It’s not meaningless, it’s just evolved into signifying an aesthetic/lifestyle different from the norm. English is a living language, so many words change in meaning over time
I live somewhere where they’re common, lived here my whole life, but I still love to watch prairie dogs. They’re cute and cool and interesting
Just fyi, if you do end up making a discussion post in the agora, you should back up claims you make (about posts that are allowed to stay up on the instances, or conversations with their mods/admins, etc) with screen shots. If I were you, I would also talk to one of the agora mods about whether you should make 1 discussion post, or 2 (1 for each instance you want to defederate from). I’m not sure how they’d want to handle it, but I’m pretty sure it would need 2 vote posts so they may want you to split it.
That sounds familiar, thanks
c/main is for instance news and general discussion, while c/agora is for discussion of instance rules and voting
edit: I should explain how the agora works. Any regular user can make a [discussion] post for proposing changes to the rules. Those are open for a week, then the mods of the community make a [vote] posts in which sh.itjust.works users can vote to accept or not accept the rule. That’s also open for a week iirc.
They don’t host illegal (in Canada) content, so the admins haven’t pre-emptively blocked them. There hasn’t been a discussion and vote in c/agora where the users decide to block them, so that hasn’t been done either. There was discussion of it for Hexbear when they first federated with us, but they blocked us after a bit and it was dropped or something, I can’t recall exactly. If it really bothers you, make a discussion post in c/agora.
somewhat related PSA: never use old psu cables with a different model psu. As far as I understand it they aren’t standardized as to which wires connect which pins, so you risk destroying components if you mix and match cables and psu
IMO there are just two questions to ask. Is she in pain? Is she ever going to get better? If the answer to the first is yes, and the second is no, then it’s time.
I read this trilogy when I was a teen, and the one thing I took away from it was that Hobb really fucking hated Fitz.
It is sort-of in the next update. Users can “block” instances, what this means IIRC is that they will not see posts or communities from the blocked instance, however they will still see the blocked instances users posts on communities on other instances, as well as their comments on posts on other instances. This feature should work to block the spam you’re talking about. We haven’t upgraded to that new version on sh.itjust.works yet because it introduced a bug in the federation system that hasn’t been fixed yet.
See the posts column in this screenshot for context:
That testimonial community at the top is the only spamming one as far as I can immediately tell. Every user is able to easily block that community with two clicks. I’m personally not inclined to defederate from an instance without multiple communities/whole instances dedicated to spamming, tons of bots, rampant and/or admin-sanctioned bigotry, rampant trolling, illegal content (that the admins already defederate automatically on their own), or something causing an existential crisis within lemmy (like threads). I don’t think lemmy.staphup.nl qualifies on spamming. If I were admin of that instance, I’d definitely ban the testimonial community though.

It’s the voting community of this instance. Users (or admins) post discussions on rule/policy changes like your post here, they’re discussed for a while, then an admin posts a vote thread for sh.itjust.works users to vote whether we should accept the change. Your post should go there.
I’m one of those girls that are obsessed with ghost types.
I don’t particularly care for ghost pokemon, but it’s important to have goals
This post should be a [Discussion] post on https://sh.itjust.works/c/agora if you actually want to get the ball rolling on possibly defederating, and you should provide links to evidence in your post
I’m partial to sh.itheads
I’ve said this elsewhere, but I’ve been sorting by new and going to the second page to avoid post bursting. Just refresh every once in a while for new posts to look at. Lemmy v0.18 should be out soon and will hopefully fix these bugs
I won’t go so far as to use the word “normie” like this is 4chan, but I will say: I think it’s fine. I’d rather have slow growth, thanks. I’m not the arbiter of what kind of users we should attract or anything, but if they have a problem with our silly name I don’t want to hang out with them.
