I’m wondering if I should go for a replacement or what.
I can’t get the Switch 2 to wake even if I hold the controllers 1cm away and hit the home screen. I know it’s not supposed to work from the old pro controllers any more, but not even from the included joycons? And since it doesn’t recognize my TV’s HDMI-CEC either, the only way to wake this damn thing while it’s docked is to walk over and turn it on. And to make matters worse, the range of the controllers is a lot worse and they keep disconnecting. I didn’t have these problems with the Switch 1.
Is it just me?
It works fine on my console. If a firmware update doesn’t fix it, it’s probably worth contacting Nintendo support and see if you can send it in for repair, or better yet just get an exchange from the retailer you bought it from. It’s not certain to be a hardware issue, but at the same time it’s not out of the picture on an early production piece of hardware.
It works perfectly for me using the joycons (just tested it again to be sure). Haven’t had a disconnect so far either. Have you already updated the controller firmware in the settings menu? Otherwise, unfortunately, there seems to be an issue with your hardware.
Just to confirm 100% that I’m alone on this. You are waking the Switch 2 wirelessly with the joycons while it is asleep in its dock, yes?
Correct. With the Switch 2 in stand-by in its dock and the joycons detached, I press the home button on the right joycon and the Switch wakes up with a little jingle as well as the light on the dock turning on.
Thanks again for the confirmation, I guess an RMA is in my future.
Thanks so much for the idea to update the controller firmware. Hadn’t tried that. I’m surprised that this could be a hardware issue but I’m glad to figure it out early.
I don’t have the wake issue, but the Joycons that came with my Switch 2 are forever disconnecting. I also can’t get the console to connect to ethernet and it takes forever to connect to wifi, if it connects at all. Strangely, the Switch 1 joycons and pro controller I paired with the Switch 2 work perfectly. If there isn’t some firmware bug that they can patch out, then I’m pretty sure people like us with these disconnect issues are probably gonna have to send it in for repair.
Sounds like we are in a similar boat as regards range. Bummer.
