    Technically Lepidodendron wasn’t a tree, it was a fern. A fern that had bark and grew to 100 feet tall, but a fern nonetheless.

      Lycophytes aren’t ferns.

      Also tree ferns - not trees, but superficially resemble them - still exist.

      At the same time, the largest extant lycophytes are maybe several tens of cm large, with most being far smaller.

    It’s just not-aged-enough coal which I use to power my smart phone box to look at the tree that will be transformed into that very same piece of coal.
