  • I actually tried to do this with a bar I owned back in the day. It was exciting / hopeful.

It went into effect January 1st, 2020. January for bars is rough because people do “dry January” so we hoped February and March would be good.

We all know what happened. It didn’t survive. Spent a good year or so continuing to pay wages and healthcare out of my own pocket, but I hit a point where I had to call it (mostly because I ran out of money and couldn’t get any more loans).

I plan to try again in the future, once I have the loans paid off and some padding saved again.

I also dream of a day where somewhat self-sustaining communes become more prevalent. Everyone living together on a shared plot and exchanging goods & services instead of money. Maybe it’s a pipe dream? I don’t know. I feel like it’ll become necessary over the next 4 years though.

  • When I used to work in office:

    • Wake up at 7am, get ready to go and take a 1 hour commute in, usually there by 9:00
    • Try to find parking, walk to office, morning break room coffee and chatter, usually settle in around 9:30
    • Get interrupted multiple times by desk drive bys
    • Take 2 hour lunch around noon with multiple coworkers because why not
    • Get interrupted multiple times by desk drive bys
    • Leave at 4 to try and avoid some traffic

Now that I work from home:

    • Wake up and hop online to work, usually settle in by 7:30am
    • No desk drive by interruptions
    • Eat at my desk during meetings or while simultaneously working
    • Sometimes start laundry or something during the day, but who cares?
    • Usually work later than 5

  • Is this how you live your life? Going around telling people how to live theirs?

Jesus christ dude. I said I’m aware.

I have specific use cases that Kagi, and nothing else that I’ve found but feel free to try me, satisfies to a T with speed and value.

Unlike you, I’m aware enough to realize I’m not the average consumer and that not everyone might fall into my bucket, so it was merely a suggestion ALONG WITH ANOTHER SUGGESTION (SearXNG). I’ll leave it up to the reader to do their own tests and see if it suits their needs.

I guarantee something you eat came from Nestle somehow and that something you own or wear was made on the backs of a sweatshop of some sort. Quit with your holier-than-thou bullshit.

  • I’ve lived in 3 and had the luxury of them being fantastic and doing more than I expected, above and beyond and never being more than like…$50/mo. Included gym and pool access and stuff.

BUT, I have a family member who lives in one where basically everybody got hit with a roof repair bill of $30k partly due to previous management embezzlement, and it ended up being taken to the courts and crap and eventually got reduced but not eliminated. I think like half the residents sold and left in the year following.

So…it can be a crapshoot but I hear more stories that are bad than good.
