Those markets can’t run on the rich alone. And yeah it will make rural poor people poorer. That’s actually also the goal. Urban sprawl should be stopped. Why do people need to build houses and villages out in bumfuck nowhere and then complain when amenities and authorties are shitty out there? These people should imo be forced to make a hard decision because if they can’t afford gas anymore they will move closer to a city since the move is more affordable than paying for gas. Hence prevention of sprawl and reducing of gas use. The only people that can stay are the ones that a) are rich and b) require it for their work (e.g. farmers) or c) ones that can work locally without driving around.
I believe working 2-3 days a week would actually be enough and with the right organization method would allow even crucial 24/7 positions to be manned (like nursing and care staff). Plus you’d basically never be understaffed because you’d have lots of backups.
8 hours a month sounds a bit too utopian to me.
That is an organizational problem because my country next to it has all those things at just about every train stop (Switzerland).
What needs to happen first is fuel price needs to be so high that people are incentivized to
a) switch to public transit no matter how shitty it is because they just can’t afford a car anymore
b) start public transit companies because there is money to be made and the oil lobbies don’t have enough money anymore to lobby effectively
My guess is before 2050 nobody will really get anything done because the oil lobby is just too powerful. Would be great though.
Because it’s old and easy to handle. Yes it’s wasteful if you convert whole videos, but really anything under 10s with low rez is easily handleable by pretty much anything. Gif was the first animated format and that’s why it’s big. Also early internet forum days were absolutely plastered with pixelart gifs that ran for minutes and barely swalloed 100kb. You can get a lot of bang for your buck if you save on pixels and framerate. But ofc a 60fps render of some 4k bluray clip will eat your memory. Contrast that with 16×32 px gif that runs at 8fps.
Denying the holocaust is only possible because of freedom of speech and look what it’s doing.
This only works for that particular law (insults) and I agree. However it breaks down at misinformation and allowing more of it enables attacks on the very foundation of those freedoms. And very often insults and misinformation go hand in hand in people with extremist stances.
Being forced into it due to family will feel bad. But if nothing else is going on, people might actually enjoy it. I have seen churches in the jungle and the mass on weekends was like a social happening like a party people were looking forward to.
Out of the loop: What’s the Doreen incident?
I really got a severe case of the Baader-Meinhof-complex. Like a month ago I heard of the demon core for the first time. And now it seems like I see it referenced everywhere. Atleast 10 times randomly in the past month.
I also don’t understand the need for safety bubbles especially on the platform lemmy which is pretty outspoken and overwhelmingly leftist. These issues should be visible to the general public to make them aware, not segregated in their own vicinity where no one else is allowed and will lead to hyperfixation and very likely discriminatory viwepoints and discussions.
I have taken a look at communities like twoXchromosomes, childfree and incel and the language they use sometimes is eerily similar to nazis and faschists. Tribalism develops really fast and it is NOT a good thing. Too many times I’ve read stuff like “today I completely destroyed <target enemy demographic>”. In the case of twoX it was men, in incels it was women and in childfree it was moms. These communities were formed out of a legitimate point of unacceptance and ignorance by the average person but longtime segregation effects are starting to take hold. The LGBT+ is also starting to show these effects and I don’t really like it tbh. I’ve honestly been denied entrance to publicly advertised events and happenings just because I wasn’t “gay” or “queer”. This will not foster acceptance. Especially not in a space where no one cares or knows what you are. I mean programming is about the most equalizing activity ever. Job environments and work teams are still suffering from ignorance but the programming itself is equal and especially online you should not segregate the community. Imo.
So what you’re saying is we should ban money
Lol I still don’t really understand ipv6 and I work in IT. Ipv4 is so much easier and nicer to work with
