Once RiF announced it would shut down due to the API changes I made my account here. I only used Reddit on mobile so just staying on old.reddit wasn’t an option. Tried a few different apps for Lemmy and landed on Sync since I can set it up as close to RiF as I could, but with improvements like sliding to up vote.

It’s a much better place here, and I actually comment more here than I ever did on Reddit due to the toxicity and just getting buried by bot accounts. My account was 12 years old when I left, now I’ve been here over a year and don’t plan on leaving any time soon. You’re stuck with me now

Mines nothing special, i5 10400 with 16GB of RAM and a 1050ti for video encoding. System runs TrueNAS Scale for Plex and Immich and has 44TB of drives running through a Dell H310 PERC SAS card. I desperately need more storage but I’ve been lacking the funds for new drives, I’d also need a 5.25" drive bay converter to hold the 2 additional drives I need in this case since all the bays are full, and another SAS card since this one’s used up.

I’d like to move to Jellyfin but from what I’ve read it doesn’t do as well for streaming from outside the network compared to Plex and half the users of my server are outside my network. So it works for now.

Pretty fucked. I’m already weighing my options here now that this has happened. My gf is a Brazilian here on a education visa, will Trump deport her? Maybe. If she goes back to see family during the summer will she be allowed back in? I don’t have much faith she will be. My cousin is trans and in a red state now, he’s very much at risk. My other cousin is queer and also at risk. If my dad wasn’t already dead his disability money will have dried up, not to mention his medications and treatments would’ve been unaffordable more than they already were. Yes I am aware some people don’t have a choice but to buy cheap cars, I have been there as well. After high school I paid $800 for a 96 Suburban that was horrible on gas but it was my only viable option. Not only am I one of those people, I’m also one who judges people for buying certain cars. Like “Ha, look at that loser who bought that early model Chrysler 300, enjoy your motor blowing up” or “is that a SUPRA that’s actually just a BMW Z4?” Then usually whoever is in the car with me asks what the fuck I’m talking about and I just say “nevermind” and move on to judging the next car in silence.

I do Active All by default, see what’s popping. After i exhaust that I go by all Hot. I have a lot of communities filtered (mainly porn ones) to clean up my feed even though I also am subscribed to several communities. Lemmy is still small enough where I don’t feel I need to only see my subs.

I knew someone who had the MO-RA3 through those ports and had it on the other side of the room. He sold it to another person in the discord server we were in and he actually installed it in his basement directly below the computer on the floor above. Wild

I see a lot of drives there, all presumably connected via SATA. If you’re looking to add more drives in the future I recommend a SAS card or two, specifically a Dell PERC H310 flashed in IT mode. I picked one up on eBay for $20 a while back and it gives me 8 drive connectivity. Also snag some mini SAS to SATA cables to connect the drives.

I’ve got 44TB running in my Plex server using it and have had 0 issues with the card. Even had a friend 3D print a fan housing and attached a small Noctua fan to the heatsink for some peace of mind when doing large data transfers to make sure the card doesn’t overheat.

I have a few iPods I still have kicking around. I have a 4th gen classic that I’ve done a flash mod to. Now it has 60GB of reliable storage as opposed to the 40GB it came with. Still works amazing.

Also have a 2nd gen Mini with a 128GB flash mod and a 5.5 gen classic still running the original hard drive.

Save money on postage. Media Mail is cheaper than First Class/Ground Advantage or Priority Mail and still offers tracking.

Well, if you’re stupid enough to mail some weed or any other controlled substance via USPS Media Mail, they don’t need a warrant or even Postal Inspectors to open it. As long as it is clear that the item is not media of some kind, it can be opened and documented to charge the correct postage.

Saw this before when some ding-dongs tried dumping mushroom growing kits (not exactly illegal) in the blue box at my old office. The only reason they opened them is because the fertilizer inside was causing a noticable amount of steam to come from the box (it was winter as well). All they really did was return it for proper postage because it was the wrong type.

I’m using the free version of Sync for Lemmy now, I don’t see any ads. Maybe because my phone has the adguard server as my DNS server and it’s just blocking them all?

How atrocious are they when not using adguard?

14TB on my PC, mix of NVME, SATA and an old Spinny Boy HDD. I have 1.5TB on my Xbox One X and 2.5TB on my PS4, but I never really touch them for more than a Plex player and PSVR on the PS4 anymore.

Also 22TB in my NAS that I have a partition for Steam game backups for faster downloads to my PC.
