Isn’t the defect rate of NK artillery something like 80% and the munitions arrive covered in machine grease that require cleaning before being used?

Obviously Ruzzia getting war support is bad, but hopefully what was sent ends up hurting Ruzzia military more than helping.

Would be a shame if Ruzzia lost artillery cover across the front lines because most the shells they have on hand are defective and Ukrainian was able to destroy/capture the artillery batteries…

I can’t decide if it’s better to leave a strategic position (that’s easy to bomb) standing for repeat business, or if levelling the building is the overall better strategy

But there’s something entirely different about passive warfare like that.

The footage of drones dropping grenades are pretty brutal too - but for me there’s something different between being hunted by a weapon system engaged in active warfare, and the passive indifference of mines.

There’s a lot of footage from this war that live rent free in my head, but an especially brutal one was of a Ukrainian soldier(medic?) during the first significant use of western armor counter offensive.

They jumped out of the APC, clearly picking their landing spot, and immediately their leg was blown off by a landmine. You could see them succumbing to shock as they’re trying to get a Tourniquet on. Thankfully his buddies immediately loaded him up and left, but it’s stayed with me more than any of the others.

For what it’s worth, my DJI drone flashes low battery around 20% and given the altitude these drones are flying at I wouldn’t be surprised if easily more than half of the battery was consumed just getting up there.

The spy craft in me thinks it could also be a false reading to hide the drones true operational range.

Damn! at first I thought these were all underground and I thought it barely scratched the surface.

Then I saw the before picture and turns out those aren’t tunnel entrances, but holes where warehouses used to be!

Feels inadequate but probably does a fair job of reducing the first drone’s damage and keeping people alive

I’d love to get to the point where we have a big science/history community and get some non-celebrity AMA’s that have genuine interaction.

I’m more than happy for Lemmy to stay “underground” for a good while, slowly building communities. Once things hit a critical mass and wind up on corporate radar, lemmy will get swarmed and another migration will happen with the same core groups that joined lemmy early.

If there ever is an issue with this selective enforcement, there is unlimited wealth shielding selective enforcers from consequences.

Trump personally may not be technically able to do anything as president elect for Ukraine support, but multiple cogs in government may suspiciously stop working preventing anything from getting done.

Honestly, in a good chunk of the videos the Russian soldiers injured by UAV will pop grenades on themselves rather than bleed out or experience Russian hospitality

I’ve seen a fair bit of soldiers getting hit by UAVs, but they usually came out of damaged vehicles or are embedded in trenches and therefore participating in combat. But it totally makes sense to eliminate threats when Ukrainian troops are moving into that territory.

It seems wasteful to kill a dieing soldier if no Ukrainians are entering the area anytime soon, especially if there are other healthy soldiers in the area to decommission

Obviously this video has Ukrainian military actively in the war zone, and it totally makes sense to eliminate any threat with UAV instead of people.

I doubt Russia cares, but it’s usually ‘better’ to have the injured return behind enemy lines

Takes more manpower/resource to care for injured

Other soldiers see what’s waiting for them, which is demoralizing

Other soldiers may notice a lack of care for the wounded which is demoralizing

People at home seeing large amounts of the population return without limbs, bringing the horrors of war to the population

Injured person may not be so loyal to Russia anymore

Obviously there are soldiers who have unique training/skills/knowledge that are hard to replace where their death is more beneficial for war. But for foot soldiers any injury that stops them from participating pays dividends.
