Your first comment makes it seem like you’re putting blame on Ukraine, even though your other comments clarify you’re not in support of Russia. At least that’s how it read to me.
The article touches briefly on it, essentially even though a minority wants these terrible policies, that minority are the GOP base and are generally single issue voters and religious. That minority has an outsized say due to gerrymandering. And there is also a feedback loop in this country where the GOP gerrymanders, they cut education and other social services, blame the “enemy” for the downturn in QOL for their constituents, and repeat. It solidifies the us vs them mentality that has these people voting against their own interests.
Obviously super simplified outlook on it since it is a very complex issue. Other people in the thread have explained better.
The reason they are able to do this comes down to gerrymandering.

I’ll second this. Learned this a long time ago. Anything you think you need on w3c schools can be found elsewhere.
Very good article. And very powerful statements from the colonel. I hope that our governments can get them the weapons they need which are wasting away in storage.
Slava Ukraini
Apparently, you have to live it
No truer words.
This is pessimistic but it seems to me that Florida is absolutely and incredibly fucked. It’s not even an uphill battle to protect the keys and Everglades, it seems unwinnable without absolutely massive and rapid global shifts, or am I just a doomer?
I only heard of this recently… should I switch off Nova? What do I even switch to?
I’ve never used anything but Nova for years and years now.
I both use subscriptions and watch what the algo shows me. According to a lot of big YouTubers I watch, their viewership mostly comes from people who find them organically and only a smaller amount of their views come from subscribers but sponsors like to see high subscriber counts as well as high view counts.
Damn you’re missing out, one of the best games
This might not be a popular opinion, but I had a very short period of time between graduating school and starting work where I needed to learn docker and I found this course: https://serversforhackers.com/shipping-docker to be very helpful, they had a sale and I got the course and it taught me everything I needed in a few days.
You absolutely don’t need a course to learn it, but sometimes these can be easy shortcuts.
I’m not following super closely at the moment, but it seems like they’re making bigger moves in Crimea than in the past with the bridge and other Russian resources they’ve been hitting lately.
Good fucking luck with that
Never fuck with a microwave, you’re asking to become the path of least resistance for that capacitor to unload through.
There is one app I know of that is for generic ActivityPub activity, https://docs.microblog.pub/
But as you said, in the more complex UIs like Lemmy, Mastodon, PeerTube, it would be a challenge to make the different forms of content fit the same structures. Micropub isn’t exactly nice to look at, but it is basic enough to be able to serve the different types of content… kinda
Full disclosure I can be completely wrong, but this is my understanding.
I don’t believe it is possible today to connect your Lemmy to Misskey. I may be wrong, but Lemmy at the moment supports kbin and lemmy. For example, Mastodon can read Lemmy, but Lemmy cannot read Mastodon. This is just a limitation of the way the app is programmed, even though the ActivityPub backend can communicate.
Used to work with a guy who would put 3 second sleeps after every line in our Jenkins file. He would then say how he’s so busy because he has no time when he’s always waiting for builds to run.
Chris, everyone knows what you were doing.
How about don’t fuck with authorities when you’re in a war zone. Probably a good rule to live by to avoid getting rocked in the face, or worse.
