The truth is the world does need landlords and cops. When they get demonized good people are less likely to become them and narcissists will take their place.

I was a landlord and had no problem saying so here. No matter what I said, people cut me down. My renters called me the best landlord, one called me the coolest landlord. Their opinions are the ones I care about. I charged $300 less than the house next door. None of this mattered to folks on Lemmy. I don’t take it personal. People talk differently anonymously online than they do in person. That’s their shortcoming not mine.

The ultralight stuff is a whole new set of gear I’ve considered buying but don’t know if I’ll use it enough to be worth it. My old school ass carries about 50lbs on a weekend trip though it drops fast as I eat up the food and drink the beer. I managed this for decades while my body weight was about 130lbs. Now I’m at 170 with plantar fasciitis, mild arthritis and possibly Covid lingering effects.

Best way to beat a bad habit is to replace it with a good habit.

For some insects it’s part of their life cycle. They spend the majority of their life in a larval stage after being born in the water. Then one day they rise from the water as adults, fly around and mate , finally returning to the water surface to lay their eggs and expire. This is the basis for fly fishing. The angler has to present a fly that imitates the insect in the particular life stage that the fish are eating. Mayflies, midges, caddis and stoneflies are the most common insects. Nymphs, pupae, emergers, dun, spinners are the flies imitating the life stages.

Your money will go further if you donate to a local charity or food bank. That being said, I’ll give money occasionally. It’s nice to let them know others do genuinely care about them and their plight. Usually I’ll talk to them first. If they’re not too pushy I’ll slip them enough for a couple of meals. Subway gift cards are a good way to go. There’s lots of them and you know your money will go towards food. Most importantly treat them with respect and dignity

One way to get the hair off of furniture is to use duct tape. Make a band to fit around your fingers with the sticky side out. Your hand is now a hair magnet. My state will subsidize child care for parents under a certain income. Nobody is saying anyone will get in trouble for babysitting family members. You could simply Google it and save yourself some typing and a whole lot of embarrassment

Try googling it. It my state day cares must be registered and it looks like there’s lots of regulations. If there is any government funding you can bet your britches there are inspections.

I haven’t known anyone to do this but I always thought managing social media accounts for small businesses would be a good side hustle. A steakhouse restaurant nearby went out of business in a year. They spent a ton of money on remodeling and a billboard with a logo but weren’t even listed on Google Maps. I’ll wager some businesses would be willing to barter in order to keep things simple

I find with stuff like this it’s important to understand the context of when it first came out. Had a neighbor say he didn’t get the appeal of the Ramones because a lot of bands sound similar.
