    Gamedev here:

For a digital copy, the devs may get between 50 and 90% of the game’s retail price, depending on several conditions like what country they are from and what treaties they have with the country of who bought it. Less than that if they have a publisher to share the profits with.

For a physical copy, between packaging, shipping, storing and the margins of all the other companies involved in this process, the devs may end up with as little as 5% of the game’s retail price.

Of course these numbers are higher for Nintendo as they are the platform owners as well.

  • The in-universe explanation was that the hospital created his department for PR reasons so that they could say they are the best at diagnosing stuff and so attract more patients even though most patients would just go to regular departments. The PR worked and so House’s department would often get transferred patients from other hospitals too, when they couldn’t figure out what was happening to them. Regular people would also seek out House specifically when they felt like they weren’t getting the right treatment.

But my interpretation of it was that the whole PR thing was just an excuse Cuddy came up with to help House. She knew what he was capable of but also knew he would never fit in on any regular job so she created something specific for him. She’s the friend every ADHDer or autistic dreams of having.

  • In any specific god? no. What I believe is that we don’t know and will never know anything beyond our own existence. We don’t know what we are, in the grand scheme of things (or if there’s a grand scheme at all). We don’t even know if we actually exist.

I just live my life to the best of my abilities and shrug off all that “beyond my existence” stuff as pointless. If I tried to think about it, I don’t believe I would ever come anywhere close to a real answer anyway.

I once worked as a 3rd party in a large internet news site and got assigned a task to replace their current captcha with a partner’s captcha system. This new system would play an ad and ask the user to type the name of the company in that ad.

In my first test I already noticed that the company name was available in a public variable on the site and showed that to my manager by opening the dev tools and passing the captcha test with just some commands.

His response: “no user is gonna go into that much effort just to avoid typing the company name”.
