There are train stations where I would much prefer a huge car park, because they’re on the “outer perimeter” of a city region where denser movement options become viable. But this sounds like a newly developed area designed under the sensible European 15-minute-city principles; where 3 parking spaces is the region taken up by a single small shop. So to me, all the complaints here sound very much like car-brain.

Everyone here was alive when the invasion started. Russia invaded Ukraine. THEN Ukraine considered entering NATO. They were happy to stay out of it as long as Russia stayed away. They didn’t. Some saw it coming, as Russia has violated just about every treaty they’ve entered.

There’s a few points I maybe want to bring up on this, though.

Through Trump’s installation, many learned what USAID was for the first time. For all it does in the world, it was never tooting its own horn. Sure, its existence is a tradeoff we made to allow for the fact of having one of the strongest military presence. But I still don’t think its existence and actions up until now should’ve been taken for granted.

Plus: Other nations in Europe cannot currently claim to be beyond manipulation via far-right rhetoric and misinformation. Germany is currently dealing with those issues in its own elections, and the very identity of that country is rooted in acknowledging the evils of 1940. Vladimir Putin targeted the United States because it was their biggest singular obstacle to expansion, acknowledging that there’s no single presidency to easily “corrupt” the European Union.

I agree that much blame lies on the USA’s population for so gullibly accepting such terrible campaign lies. I just don’t think that kind of evil ignorance is uniquely American, and the rest of the world needs to stay vigilant, rather than assuming all threat will come externally.

It’s erroneous to claim the judge orders blocking the executive orders have done anything.

^ There, that statement alone had just as much effect as the judicial orders. Fact is, DOGE still has extensive access to most of the systems that they breached, and judges have largely been ignored, or have given rulings complicit with Trump’s actions.

There’s a case in Ace Attorney Investigations where Edgeworth is investigating a kidnapping in front of a building. He makes the determination from witnesses that “only two cars passed through here this morning.”

Boy howdy if that had happened in America, that kid would still be caged up. Streets are so much nicer when we don’t need cars.

If you want to make the argument that “there are no racists” in America, that is a starkly uphill claim to make.

I acknowledge a huge number of voters are not like that. Which is why I talked about them first and regarded Others as being racist. Which is true.

The big thing to me is helping the “opposition” (that I put in quotes) clarify their values. Many of them say they oppose illegal immigration to get violent criminals out of America. (Many others are racists) We can focus on details that show Republicans don’t care about violent offenders, ignoring them to focus on nonviolent immigrants, and that Democratic organization successfully removes them.

A big point in favor of this is showcasing how many people were deported under Obama. It was more than Trump! The reason it’s not highlighted because it was “business as usual” going after violent offenders, not to mention scaling down operations from prior admins, and because the organization didn’t receive direct interference to make big shows of hurting innocent people.

People can get more done, more effectively, when their boss isn’t trying to make news headlines about it.

This is very much a fair take - and ties back to the realities of the French Revolution. It wasn’t actually the poorest people on revolt, but a slightly more wealthy class that had just enough comfort in their lives to make decisions like organizing for change.

I know it’s not possible for every person to join. I can only ask for those capable to think about it. For what it’s worth, the original post has suggested other ways of contributing aside from attending.

This was the bit that I think scared me at first. It’s not suggesting “Stop working now, and stay out of work until we get 10 million members and then Congress acts and then everything’s fixed”. More like “Add your name to a list, and WHEN there’s mass agreement, take the plunge so that there’s too many people for businesses to replace.”

Most of us understand that protesting carries risks, and encourage others to risk what they feel okay with.

General strikes take a pretty large mass. To build that, a very important step is making sure more people are aware of how many are committed to resistance.

It’s like being invited to a party, and the host says “Well, you’re one of the first ten people I’ve invited, but I’m encouraging others to share-” and you just reply “Nope, I’m not going unless there’s already a million people going.” Of course, in this case, the protest has been shared outside of just Lemmy, so don’t use local numbers as an indicator.

One thing I’d recommend that I’m unsure how to easily obtain, is getting the phone number of a civil rights lawyer ready. It does kind of contradict the point about not bringing phones, I suppose. At the very least, if one is available in the vicinity after attempted arrests it can be useful.

I also feel somewhat guilty, as I will be attending in a very blue state that’s unlikely to have so much resistance, so I may skirt some of those rules myself.

My iPhone battery has survived a surprising amount of time, and I’m going to guess that’s because of Apple imposing its own researched limits on battery charging based on what it sees from my usage.

That could mean it’s sometimes lying when it says it’s at “100%”.

I mean, they were. I have personally heard from people that couldn’t be bothered to understand the Xbox SKUs for the possibility of buying one because of how horribly Microsoft names things.

Winter biking got me to think more about outdoor clothing, and now it ends up being pretty comfortable outside with all my gear. I’d need to face it either way even if I was driving.

Still might need thicker gloves…

I’m very curious what they’ve done to prevent people accidentally forcefully removing it during gameplay. The sliding lock was annoying at first, but if you’ve ever gripped the controller hard at a pivotal moment it’s probably good that it didn’t rip away or even stress the parts.

I’m enjoying Marvel Midnight Suns. It has very fun combat tactics, I probably should turn up the difficulty but I love flinging soldier at each other.

I just wish it turned down the social elements a little bit. The game feels like it was a fan fiction dream of its writers and so you spend time going to a book club with Blade or having your supporting comments rejected by turbo-grump Captain Marvel. It’s also hard to absorb drama behind a premise such as “People can get perma-hypnotized.”

Honest question: Would it not be easier to befriend the restaurant’s owner/head chef so you can have a traditional home holiday meal with them while they’re off work?

I have not played Sekiro, but I have played an indie knockoff called Kanagi Usagi, so I’m basing my understanding on that.

From how it felt, the health bars are a decoration and the real boss health is poise. I get what they were going for, but it causes a lot of stress for any interruption like healing or long enemy attacks that cause their poise to regenerate, feeling like your effort and time was wasted.

A game I liked better in every respect was Another Crab’s Treasure. You build poise even just by hold-blocking, but your “shield” is a limited resource; one you can choose to invest in with RES. It keeps the idea of encouraging you to keep pressure, by building poise damage on regular attacks, but also punishes you for dodge-rolling as a default for every attack (you’ll never get a “capsize”). And, you still get the reward factor of parries if you release block at the perfect time.

And yeah, ACT is a bit easier; but I’d say its chosen level of difficulty made it a more enjoyable game.
