Fun fact: Mexican Spanish is derived from Castilian Spanish from the central and northern regions of Spain, and was later influenced by Indigenous, African and Caribbean languages.
It doesn’t change what you said, I just think it’s a cool fact. :D
Compulsive comment editor.
#Sorry not sorry

Not mentioning you when mentioning everyone else is not bad mental health. It’s called being an asshole.
Yeah but can you chuck it in the river?
Imo, AP was created with a great deal of integration in mind without being prescriptive. It’s hard to gauge what abuse really is when the feature in question is marginal and a bit inconvenient to use as other commenters have pointed out. I look at it more as a “look what we can do” type of thing.
A meme? I’m over here looking at this image with a tear in my eye thinking back about how the war has evolved. I really don’t see what you see.
Yeah, most likely. Although it does sound as if the ol’ ball & chain could be attached indefinitely on first read. I imagined sliding something to that effect in a joint contract and have my ex-roommate come in to do my laundry every week after leaving according to the vague print. lol
TAX & MILITARY OBLIGATIONS
Persons who wish to take the oath of renunciation under INA 349(a)(5) or who are requesting a Certificate of Loss of Nationality under INA 349(a)(1)-(4) should be aware that if the Department issues of a Certificate of Loss of Nationality in the person’s name (reflecting the official determination of loss of U.S. nationality) the former U.S. citizen’s U.S. tax or military service obligations may remain unchanged (contact the Internal Revenue Service or U.S. Selective Service for more information).

during COVID you had conservatives literally claiming COVID was no big deal as they died
I remember seeing a lot of headlines on the Herman Cain Award subreddit claiming things like deniers asking doctors if they could still get vaccinated as they faced severe illness. lol
I don’t see the Dems doing shit about anything, though. Do they really want them back? If so, where’s the plan?
Truly the poet of our generation 🥲
Oh, this is great! I like that he regularly uploads, too. I’ll have to dig through so many of his videos and that’s a good thing.
Thank you! I heard about Manufacturing Consent before but it completely escaped my radar.
The alleged reason why Russia attacked was because they want a buffer zone of neutral countries around them. Apparently the US has been running its agenda pushing for Eastern European countries to join NATO knowing it’d stir some shit by ruffling Russia’s delicate feathers. So Russia panicked when Ukraine looked to join NATO at the US’s suggestion and basically used the gay panic defense but for the Western allegiance arriving in their backyard and invaded under a pretext.
Yes, the USA did ignore Russia’s concerns knowingly (and did some very questionable shit inside Ukraine, as usual) but Russia imagined the worst scenario for themselves and did the illegal shit.
Or, as it’s often the case, informed! Many people hate not just out of ignorance but also because everyone else is doing it but they don’t know why.
During the Lavender Scare, some homophobic government officials had to be explicitly informed what being gay meant because they were operating/ruining lives on a vague idea. :/
Ok but Robin was downright mad! And I loved that for him. RIP
Beliving nothing can be done
This one in particular has been so corrosive. I believe if people believed in their vote, something would change. But the electoral college does more harm than good by diluting the vote. Couple that with gerrymandering to completely erode people’s trust in the system.
Same. I’m so mad and disappointed in America, but I can’t let that override my compassion for its people. This whole thing is so frustrating to watch. Look at how the French do it, Americans! It’s time to break some shit.
Which are then obviously confirmed with a web search. Jesus, spare me the cynicism.
And I’m just going to say this as a general observation, but the user base of the fediverse is pretty sophisticated at this time to be assuming shit like this. You make this place hostile by not giving the benefit of the doubt, you know. And even then. How hard is it to not think the worst of everyone you come across online? So ridiculous and petty.
I mostly ask it things I don’t know, though. I’m not exporting my thinking to it.
I ask it difficult translations, how to code something I’m unfamiliar with, help with grammar, i use it as an OCR for other languages, to help me remember things I can’t directly search, etc. I have a hard time believing all use is detrimental, especially when you’re filling in the gaps of your knowledge and a best guess will do. It’s surely better than a web search for things you don’t even know how to write in a search box.
I don’t know what you mean by “choosing a dialect would be messy and complicated” since Mexican Spanish is an obvious choice. The rest of Latin America understands Mexican Spanish well because they grew up watching our shows, listening to our music and watching movies with Mexican dubs. I’ve met at least one Uruguayan, Argentinian, and a Peruvian who told me so. Don’t you think its widespread would make the choice easier?
And how do you mean it’d be more complicated and expensive? The learning materials are already made and widely used. I think it’d be a licensing issue at worst if they really wanted to switch over.
