Yep. That’s the delicious irony here. They could probably release a Linux or Windows based clone next week, if they wanted.
The years of work they’re putting in is probably 90% to avoid leaking their game engine on non-proprietary hardware. Which is the same choice that will make it an unprofitable market flop.
I had one Nintendo Switch fry itself when plugged into a non-nintendo USB C connection, so I wouldn’t risk it.
I learned the hard way that the switch is apparently notoriously picky about it’s chargers.
I’ve been trying, but it’s tough. Is there a book club or something where we can share tips?
(I’m kidding. Instead I’ve settled for making sure they experience the great movies, books and videogames.)
make me question who bankrolled this research group.
Yeah. This reads a lot like “well known harmful but profitable product not as harmful as previously understood”. I’ve seen that headline a lot of times over the years, and rarely was it honest.
Is there somewhere where people have tried to have this civil discussion that I could look at where it stayed civil?
I find that place can be here, with some liberal blocking of asshats.
I was surprised how much thoughtless angry contrarianess was from the same accounts over and over, once I started blocking them.
Yep. Luanti / MineTest. My battery life while playing it is so good, it’s weird. I certainly don’t mind. But I thought my SteamDeck had a battery tracking bug, at first.
I haven’t noticed any loss of battery performance in the year I have had mine.
Weirdly, the time I notice the battery the most is while playing Lunati. Because playing Lunati for two hours somehow costs no battery at all on my SteamDeck.
The Lunati developers are some kind of mad geniuses, I figure.
Lots of devices will kill their own battery to maintain Wifi connection rather than drop.
When is happened to me, it’s always a combination of a specific place I’m sitting and a specific wifi access point.
I haven’t, myself, noticed it happen to my SteamDeck, though.
Neat! I’ll check it out. Thanks!
They are not all the same.
Measure the diameter of the hole at the bottom of the water holding tank. It’s the main difference between older and newer toilets in the US.
Any US toilet repair kit should list what diameter(s) it supports.
Depth of the holding tank will vary as well, but most repair kits account for this. Some kits may require using a hand saw to cut some plastic tubes to fit smaller tanks. Other kits have an extendable or collapsible tube.
Where would I even start.
There’s a lot of good information provided video game reviewers. I tend to start there, when looking for something new.
In particular, I’ve learned about entire genres such as “cozy games” and “couch co-op”, that way. Then, once I know what the genre I’m in the mood for is called I can search for “best cozy games of 2020”, to find ideas of what I might like to try.
In order to not worry about whether each game will run, I feel that the SteamDeck is the current nicest all around game console available, followed by the Nintendo Switch.
They are solvable problems, and many have already been solved already in some countries.
This is a great point!
Yeah. At least until his yes-men high five him and slap him on the back on his way to board the deep space or deep sea vessel that he designed himself.
But losing 75% of population, I can see some nuclear war breaking out
Seems pretty likely (eventually). I take hope that I’ll be in the direct blast radius, and not a mutilated horribly scarred survivor.
I choose not to think about this one much because it’s well outside my circle of influence.
The current trend sucks, obviously.
But historically, we used to be so much worse to each-other.
There’s reasons (data and practicality) to have faith that things will continue to improve.
But it won’t be enough, for many of us, in many of our lifetimes, so let’s all stay angry and active.
Annecdotaly, a recent patch had notes that implied it fixes this issue. I got so tired of the dock being unreliable that I haven’t confirmed it, though.
The guarantee they enjoyed is no longer expressed in the constitution. Or am I missing something?
Yeah. I’m not saying it was wise, by any means!
You make some great points.
For anyone having trouble wrapping their head around doing this analysis for themselves, I’ll share mine:
I like to think my OpSec has kept foreign governments out of my affairs, but I’m honestly not sure. I know my government’s rules, because I read my local laws. There’s a lot of governments whose rules-of-engagement I don’t even know what are, and I’m confident that some of my “someone could probably” conspiracy theories are science fact somewhere in the world. Guessing which/how/when is a lot harder, than just suspecting/assuming I’ve missed something.
I’m confident that my OpSec is good enough that large corporations know that I exist, but are confused about me. I like it that way because I’m 90% sure they’re colluding to keep my salary lower, and that pisses me off. Thankfully big corporations aren’t motivated to do much more than make it inconvenient for me to evade their net.
I’m less confident about smaller businesses, honestly. Like anyone, I use a local dentist and barber. I didn’t choose my dentist or barber for their Cybersecurity practices.
Windows 11

I’m just fucking with y’all. Debian, of course.
