sorry for taking a while to get back but the main source of mojeek revenue is api sales, having people pay to access results for different applications (bing does similar i.e. duckduckgo, qwant, ecosia)
The alternative search engine that does what’s right, we believe that privacy is a human right and that a true alternative must have its own index 👉 https://www.mojeek.com/

working on it! If you have any searches not working for you then please send them in to us; it’s one the main ways in which we identify issues and improve Mojeek for everyone.
people interested in alternative search tend to be in spaces that aren’t your GAFAM big tech networks, we’ve been on masto since 2018 also
not to come off as overly dismissive of people elsewhere, but you also find that the quality of discourse and people’s willingness to think about things are both considerably more elevated
yes we are indeed a standalone, the sizes of bubbles are reflections of the number of index-usage relationships yep is attached to ahrefs: https://techcrunch.com/2022/06/03/yep-search-engine/ where I can speak to where results come from, I couldn’t tell you about their model
and when people let us know where we fall down we’re able to make it better, growing alongside the userbase!
Swisscows does use Bing, Startpage uses Bing and/or Google depending upon where you are, we are fully independent: https://www.searchenginemap.com/ is a visualisation that might be useful
This is correct, we are independent and have been since all the way back in 2004, 8bn-page index and growing 😀
coming up to 20 years of no tracking, 18 of having the first privacy policy to say it: https://web.archive.org/web/20060318104627/http://www.mojeek.com/privacy.html
hopefully a good consensus 😅 at least seen very little of people saying bad
you can smash the “submit feedback” button on the page when you get a duff search and send it into us, it’s how we improve: https://blog.mojeek.com/2024/02/major-algorithm-update.html
biased but i think they’re doing just swell (and getting better by the day) ;)
thank you kindly, that is great to hear; we’ve got this new and even better (so far testing is showing that) algo ready to go too: https://www.mojeek.com/eval so hopefully it’ll be even more fantastic-er soon :D
Currently looking at mojeek myself
How’d you find us?
We’re always on the lookout for feedback; if you are willing to send in the searches then it really helps us improve.
The Eval Page is also useful for this: https://www.mojeek.com/eval; there’s an improvement algo up there currently we’re getting testing done on.
Lately I’ve been trying to use mojeek, which (to my understanding) unlike other sites like DDG actually has its own crawler whereas most alternatives are just frontends for google/bing.
This is correct, there aren’t many, and we recently passed 7.7bn pages. You can actually help with any wonkyness through feedback, but also we have this page which we trial new algos on; there’s a large update sat on it currently.
hello, we’re quoted in the piece, set your parameters to look only since the change/recently i.e.
Bing - Restricted to a week here and there is nothing
Mojeek - We are not crawling due to the block, avoiding adding results without content
As most are just using Bing’s results (DDG, Qwant, Ecosia) you should see similar.
