  • I’m trying to be one of those people. I realized how immense my privilege actually is I when I started to hang around a crowd of alternative people. I feel like I fit in much better there than with those others “that made it in life” (whatever that means). But it’s sometimes really awkward to make twice what they do for less effort day to day. I’m going into politics and try to influence where I can in my job and social circle since I fit in in places the true radicals can’t. The world really is fucked up. I try not to ashamed of my privilege, but instead grateful that I have the ability to make a bigger impact for less costs on a group of people that really needs to get the message.

  • It’s awesome that you don’t have to remember what software you’re using underneath. I looked into it before I installed it, but I’d have to check which one I went with. I also have no idea what graphics card I’m using, which headset I’m using, what brand of eyeglass cleaner I’m using etc. I looked into it at the time, made a choice and promptly forgot about why and filled my brain with other things.

If I remembered which database I was running it means that I’d have enough problems with it that I’d look at it a lot.

A mix is what’s needed. Trains between major metropols, busses for smaller places. Less frequent busses for yet smaller places and no busses for the most remote locations.

I have used public transit to several remote locations in Scandinavia, it’s surprisingly doable, but it takes planning and often waiting because there’s only one bus a day, the school bus (but anyone with a ticket can get a ride).

Still, having the option to travel with public transport and have the opportunity to read my book, doze off or just relax is amazing.
