On 4chan people refer to “containment” boards for topics that are racist, inflammatory, or regularly derail conversations (ex. pol, b, mlp). That way the people who want that aren’t always polluting boards where people just want to talk about (for example) food or technology.

So I was half joking that hexbear is like a containment board. It isn’t quite the same, but since other Lemmy instances can block hexbear all at once it has the same effect.

So when companies charge the same or more they are just keeping the difference, it is not “sin tax” related like we’ve been conditioned to accept up here…

Made the leap to an undercounter ice maker when we renovated, since the fridge ones keep breaking, and it has been the best decision, despite the initial ridiculous cost.

I go through sooooo much ice and ice water every day now. It makes me so happy every time I open the door and see the heap of perfect clear cubes waiting to be scooped into my cup.

Emmett Otter is an absolute masterpiece and a treasure I’ve watched since the 80s. I’ve never met anyone who knows what it is, though. Have you ever paid attention to the lyrics in the opening song? ROFL

Anecdotally I have the impression a lot of North American Lemmy users are technology professionals and enthusiasts in their 40s and 50s and therefore many would also be Trekkies from the 20th century.
