  • Possibly tho I personally doubt it. My local area is pretty conservative so not a lot of people care about climate change and I don’t have a sizable population of climate consurned people to know in person. But from what I’ve observed online people who do care about climate change don’t talk about car color at all. Instead they are more concerned about cars being electric. On top of all that cars today are pretty disposable and gas has been in the process of getting phased out. So it’s entirely possible that by the time car color becomes a concern most folks probably would have gone through 20 different cars by then. That’s all without mentioning how AC has become a standard feature on even low end econo boxes. But hey not everyone thinks rationally just look at the entire premise of mith busters.

  • If we’re talking working at IKEA as like a delivery guy yeah but as a normal dude you don’t need a full size pickup for a once a year thing even I a dude who lives in the middle of nowhere Vermont and have to haul firewood to stay warm during winter my willies jeep does the job just fine and that’s a car that doesn’t even have a bed I just have a crap ton of horsepower and a trailer people forget that jeeps entered the civilian market as a work vehicle for farms and lumber yards

  • If argue another thing that is fighting against Kai trucks is the fact that I’m told that there is a dealership feedback loop. For example the reason why cars are rather black and white now is because dealerships viewed that those colors sold better. Same thing with auto transmissions. However we are now finding those cars are selling better is because there are more of them, and there are more of them because they sell better. I suspect the same thing is happening with big trucks. Bigger luxury trucks are selling better than small trucks because there are more big luxury trucks, and there are more big luxury trucks because they sell better. This feedback loop exists because dealerships force consumers to select from what they have when you want to buy a new car. When you look at the second hand market you’ll find colorful manual small trucks sell better than colorless automatic luxury trucks.

  • Yeah crumple zones are enforced by the bumper so when you lift a car you’re making the colliding car smash into the other above the bumper and gliding above the crumple zone if I recall the Ford pento was unfairly judged because the cars that were used to rate it’s rear end crash safety had their front ends waghted down to simulate heavy breaking however it caused the cars to not only have more weight than normal but they also ramed into the pento going under the crumple zone and directly into the gas tank so I guess you can also make a argument for lowered SUVs and trucks to be just as bad as lifted trucks and suvs

  • Eh most of your points kinda proves my point of how we have been sacrificing pedestrian safety for driver safety the only considerable counterpoint you brought up is how SUVs are more prone to rollover and from what I understand about cars getting bigger is so crashing is less deadly but by being bigger you also make crashing more inevitable so I guess that’s a bit of a stalemate argument

I agree you already need a license to drive a semi trucks I believe but just as someone who dailys a little itty bitty BMW z3 and works at a Toyota dealership and has driven 60s international harvesters anything bigger than a jeep wrangler takes time getting used to being tall and bulky hell I’ve seen people driving in the middle of the road because they got acclimated to driving a corrola and just hopped into a f150 as a man who has flipped my ATV making trails off roading no matter what your in you need to be instructed on the ins and outs of off roading I’m so onboard for making a sort of truck driving license

  • I have a similar comparison between my 2000 bmw z3 and 56 Chevy bel air with a 74 Chevelle engine and I have tested my z3 mpg and got 29mpg and knowing my z3 tank and bel air tank are the same size and every week of daily driving my z3 has about a quarter of a tank left and my bel air typically has half a quarter left so I guesstimate my bel air gets about 20 or 25 mpg but because I work at a dealership I get to see the mpg of every brand new car that comes in and I’ve seen 4runners tundras and Silverados that roll onto the lot rated at as low as 15mpg how the fuck is my car from the 50s more eco friendly than a considerable number of new cars on the road today if my car had a overdrive I could probably understand but I have a 3 speed automatic that it came out the factory with I should be needing to have at least a modern engine and transmission to make my bel air comparable but no just having a early 70s motor is enough to get better mileage then new 2024 trucks

After getting stuck in traffic jams in both a giant land yacht 56 bel air and a tiny little 00 z3 crumple zone is kinda the least of my worries compared to getting cramps in my compact z3 my time in car centric Florida I was really begging to just have bench seats so I can at least stretch my legs inside my car

  • Yeah I feel that way about the Internet as a whole kinda one of the reasons why I’ve been trying to make my accounts interact with j pop and Japanese studying recently so there’s what I’ve been trying and here specifically im finding a lot of communists and trans people trying to get people to be on their side and like bro I just want to get suggestions on how to make my car faster I suppose at least the atheists on here are pretty jokey and the fuck cars community is pretty chill actually one of the reasons why dispute being a car guy I strongly support infrastructure that doesn’t focus on cars over all the star trec meme community here has been pretty good non political community
