  • If you want I can hit you up with a couple TB S3 compatible block storage against a small compensation covering electricity. I’ve got about 30TB available of my 64TB that are just doing nothing right now, it’s a shame really. I’m running a TrueNAS homelab in a RaidZ2 with battery backup and proper Firewall and IDS/IPS protection (but I’m not a professional). If that’s fine DM me.

  • He’s not senile and not stupid. Not at all. This is strategic distraction. Intentionally flooding the news with so much bs that they can’t keep up. At the same time he’s planting uncertainty and pressure for future negotiations with the same or different entity.

How to deal with that: just ignore his outrageous and often stupid headlines. Dig deeper and think about what he’s trying to accomplish down the road. You’ll get your answers if you start thinking of him as an intelligent strategist playing stupid rather than a stupid strategist playing intelligent.

  • Do you have any idea what the cost is to restore 50 TB from that?

I assumed you’re only paying per GB storage. At least that’s what their S3 pricing page says. I believe transfer cost only applies if you transfer from one S3 solution to another. I’m not using it myself, so I don’t know the details. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

What happens when they decide to raise the price?

If you depend on AWS you’re doing something wrong. You should at least adher to the 3-2-1 backup plan. If you do so, you can switch away from AWS any time they change their policy.
