  • i realized (in retrospect & a few years ago) that i was near the center of a strongly controversial political hiring decision based on the comments i got from some of my colleagues; but didn’t them piece together until almost a decade+ later.

i’m still not sure what the controversy was; but i do know it was committed by the same c-level exec who took a strange interest in my well being in my the company like i was pip in the dickens novel, great expectations. i assume this because his tenure ended an hour before mine did when the company got bought out. lol

i also learned that my team lead and my manager were on the opposing side of the decision; so i got quite a lesson on what it means to watch your back at work and keeping your ear to the ground.

  • my favorite is hercule’s promise to have sex with a shepherd after he came back from the underworld.

in it, hercules has go to the underworld to complete his labors and ends up making an agreement with a shepherd that hercules will have sex with him if he shows hercules how to get into the underworld; and so he does.

hercules does his thing in the underworld and when he comes back to make good on his promise, he finds out that the shepherd had died; but there was a sapling growing out of the shepherd’s grave so hercules figures that he’ll have sex with the little tree and that his promise to the shepherd is fulfilled.

  • i think that, that blissfully unaware allyship hurt the democrats in this election and most of the world’s most impactful &/or influential leftists started out life with a silver spoon in their mouths; according to frederick douglass’ shocked impression of john brown’s humble trappings.

it also jives with my own anecdotal experiences of being dragged out to leftists &/or artist gatherings and mainstream events like burning man where you can see various cliques of people form where many to most have the rich or famous at their cores; somehow leftists are great at attracting the rich and famous.

it’s so unusual that the people who have most level headed views of finances are the ones who have the most money and the few that broke that class solidarity to create a new one with the poor are called leftists, while the majority who maintained that solidarity are called capitalists; with an overwhelming majority in between deride the class traitors as foolish because they’re told to by the non-class traitors

i think that some of those rich people who become democrats (or hasan piker’s) because their stations in life afford them the freedom to do so like the cishet allies. that proximity to the struggle; is worse that being completely ignorant of that struggle in some ways because the tiny but crucial details that allies will never likely understand makes for big missed opportunities like there still being time to enact the equal rights amendment to protect us from the likes of project 2025.

TFW you want to do things good, slow and expensive, but management makes you do them fast, cheap and crap.

    For your entire career.

    Please kill me

i got the sense that some people wanted to when i made this same point about this industry in this same community about a week or so ago.

i love the duality of lemmy sometimes. lol

they’re using decentralized like it’s a marketing term hoping to draw in people who are sick of the enshitification we get from the likes of reddit and facebook.

bluesky has already enshitified imo ever since they started censoring gazan users for reporting on the genocide by pretending it’s all spam.

  • it’s more warped than that. the anti-teen pregnancy parents where themselves kicked out for committing the same teenage pregnancy and it’s been happening for 5 generations so far.

its like watching generational trauma on meth since it literally happens every 14 or 15 years and to everybody and the thought process is just a completely circularly reasoned clusterfuck like our elections every time; i will never be able to see how kicking out your daughter is supposed to help when all it does is, effectively, deprive them of things she needs for her and her child’s future (their grandchild) like an education for that future; a stable and nurturing home environment; access to medical care; a built in family based support system; etc.

watching my family repeat this surprise-to-kickout-to-squabbling-to-truce cycle every 14 or 15 years informs my opinions of the phrase “history repeats itself” and i wish that the education that would help prevent us from repeating this history wasn’t so difficult to realize for everybody.
