  • The company that provides your banks phone system has full access to pretty much every piece of information your bank holds on you, including call recordings, phone numbers, addresses, debts, credits, and your phone password. We can trick our own systems into thinking it’s you on the phone.

Avoid calling your bank at all costs, and if they call you say “no thank you I’ll do that online or in branch”, as soon as you pass security the phone system is accessing all your data. If possible go into branch or do everything on a banking app which has far better security.

  • Yes it is - bit of a tool nerd here but I think that is a JCB Combi Drill. That is JCBs slightly unusual “hammer mode”, and should be no problem to drill 20cm into breeze block with a decent bit. There are a vast array of what people call “breeze blocks” from 3.6n Aircrete (one step up from that green stuff florists use) to full concrete blocks with drill blunting pieces of ballast. This drill with a decent drill bit will do all of the above, but it might take a while and need a better drill bit for the harder options.

  • Initially I thought this was a “vacation-related” tips request, then I remembered Lemmy is mainly US English not UK English. You can buy a pyrography set, an engraving tool some sandpaper and the things needed for acid etching for less than $10 With a little practice you can make a cheap gift more personal by adding the recipients name or a message personal to you both on wood plastic, metal or glass. I used some vinegar, a q-tip, 9v battery, electrical tape, salt and copper wire to acid etching a hunting knife last year as a gift.
