Nothing to do with being Chinese. Amazon is going to brick some of their devices that play music in cars IIRC. There are western companies that made pace makers who closed source their communication protocols, went bust, and now the pace makers are in patients who have no way to service them.
Opensourcing after deprecation should be written into law.

5·4 months agoExcuse me for my ignorance, but what is the importance? Which questions does this answer, what does it confirm, and what does it mean for the future? As a layman, I’m in the dark on this.
However, in a study we published in 2023, we found that, while European countries have banned the use of colistin in farming, paradoxically they still actively export livestock feeds that contain colistin to low- and middle-income countries such as Nigeria for agriculture use.
When people complain about people fleeing their countries in the global south, they often forget or omit that the global north plays a large part in the state of the countries being fled from. A majority seems to believe that they can continue living their lives, built upon the extraction of wealth from others, with no repercussions and constantly amazed when they are proven wrong.
People do not vote for improvements in other countries. In a globally connected world, people stay myopic in time and space, only caring enough to take action related to things that happen to them, those close to them, or those that are like them.
So, something the majority of people can never attain. Awesome.
Or are you going to hand me a plot of land that isn’t as big as a thimble? If so, sign me up. I want it.
17·4 months agoPirateSoftware was a blizzard dev, is a current dev, and is just basically lobbying against change. I don’t believe he’s being genuine in his arguments and is misrepresenting the cause or hasn’t understood it. It was possible to make games that didn’t stop working once a server shut down and it still is.
Being given a server binary isn’t a licensing issue unless you make it one. And because publishers and studios sign shitty contracts, doesn’t make it right, nor the only way to do business. If he wants to do business that way, do that shit in the US, but if something meaningful happens in the EU, then don’t sell your games there. Simple as…

it turns out the PS VR2’s Sense Controllers are very flakey when it comes to Bluetooth connectivity. Even though I have the required Bluetooth adapter built into my PC, constant connection losses meant that I couldn’t even make it past the headset’s initial setup process on PC.
Bluetooth has always been a bad experience for me. The connection will always randomly drop. Sometimes I’ll hold the two connected devices right next to each other or lay one on top of the other and the connection will still drop.
Any device that requires bluetooth is an immediate nope for me and life has been easier since.
Why don’t we have anything better? I’d even accept WiFi (802.11) connections over bluetooth. Sure, they aren’t as energy efficient (right?), but at least they are stable.
