To clarify, I’m not sure what response doesn’t result in more innocent people dying.

I don’t really care about this specific conflict more than any other. And morally I don’t care for the lives of one side more than the other. And morally I don’t care who lived in what cities 100 years ago (note: unless those specific people are involved).

My confusion seems to be that the ‘right’ response people seem to want to this is no response.

To me it looks like Hamas using occupied buildings as places to attack from, the Israel being told they aren’t allowed to hit back at people using human shields.

I love my Tesla… but it isn’t clear to new drivers where they can and can’t charge, without some research. I can easily see someone assuming it works like a gas station and that they are all interchangeable.

Maybe my area was poorer than average over something, but we had no AC and I didn’t know anybody who did. If it was 100F, we went to a matinee because it was air conditioned. Mailmen still delivered even on those days. Granted, that is probably on average less weight.

But as I said, I’m not in Texas either.

If you delete the word ‘Texas’ many of us would probably just see this as unfortunate. If you’re over the age of 30 you probably grew up without ANY air conditioning, even where the temperature exceeded 100F a few days a year.

I’ve never been to Texas, so maybe this place is more like the Sahara than the east coast US.

I REALLY don’t care to research every company I buy something from. Even if I know the primary person is a jerk, I still don’t care unless there is a near equal alternative.

Data point of one, but I bought the cheapest Model 3 model back in 2020, added FSD (was $6k at the time I think) and have had no issue with mine. FSD is not ‘full self driving’, but I’ve been using it continuously since the update a few months ago.

I despise car culture, and it is the least car like car that I could buy. It does most of the driving, it is safer than most, it has no ongoing emissions, and per mile is cheaper than a gas car.

Especially since membership falls after pay.

The internal question always needs to be ‘what is my next best alternative - if I need to actually say no’. Without an answer you are comfortable with, you won’t be able to negotiate.

It is a someone evil aspect to reality…. those who have more, and need less, have a better position to negotiate for me.

That train number seems to include standees at AW2 (functionally rush hour)… vs the average car.

He includes enough braking distance between cars for a relative high speed, but none for another other train.

Apple and other companies with web browsers are probably our biggest hope. People will complain if websites just ‘stop working’ one day because of their browser choice.

That said, I’m probably fooling myself. PECO.com, a huge electric company, doesn’t work unless I’m in incognito mode. I think it fails if you are signed into another corporation’s Microsoft 365 account. But they don’t seem to care.

I guess, but somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 of people already use ad blockers. It’s not a small segment of the population. Even more people use some sort of plugin.

I think it is more likely that certain sites require secure mode; just like today. I guess I could be wrong, and most sites will end up doing it. I still suspect there will be a work around; even if it is as complicated as a secure browser being run in a virtual machine and then AI removing the ads to show you the ‘clean’ version.

What stops the FOSS community from just continuing to allow ad blockers and other webpage editing features?

I do wonder how much of this was evenly dispersed. IE: did slaves or indentured servants or the Irish keep working?
