Did you say that they’re raising the price for the US switch?
Most likely they will be. They stopped pre-orders in the US because they have to figure out the tariff situation. $450 is the pre-tariff price.

It would make sense if they lowered the digital price rather than raised the physical one.
For the US only. Other countries won’t be getting a price increase.
Yeah, I could stomach a big upfront cost for the console (a year or so after launch, when you can just walk into a store and get one), but the $80 and $70 price points combined with Nintendo never putting their games on sale makes it so, so not worth it. Third party games you can play elsewhere, even portably, so that’s not nearly as much of a selling point as it was in 2017.
Looks like the US price for the Switch 2 will be raised due to the tariffs, so the “more expensive for everyone but Japan” thing has nothing to do with the tariffs. It does make me wonder, though, what happens if a friend buys a Switch 2 at a cheaper price in Europe, then mails it to someone in the US? Are tariffs also paid for all person to person packages?
There needs to be a Wii-U era again.
I agree, they need to be humbled, but I have no idea whether they will or not. While the economy is working against them, a LOT of people liked the Switch, and this is a more powerful one rather than a hard-to-understand mess like the Wii U. Genuinely curious to see how the Switch 2 does. My best guess is “modest success.”
I even had a Virtual Boy! Although I bought it for like $25 after it had already failed.
I guess we’ll see just how much of Nintendo’s market is made up of fans with lots of expendable income vs. parents buying stuff for their kids.
This kinda feels like Sony’s PS3 announcement, but Nintendo can get away with more than Sony could then.
It will also be on the Switch 1, meaning it will probably be able to run emulated on a Steam Deck.
No way the Steam Deck will be able to run emulated Switch 2 games. Maybe the Steam Deck 2.
Same, owned every console since the NES. This one’s a pass for me. Maybe Nintendo will be humbled and bring their pricing back down to Earth in the future, but I doubt it.
But if you account for average wages, the prices are higher now.
You can’t even buy first party Switch 1 games from 2017 at that price.
In the Switch era, they don’t at all. Nintendo Selects isn’t a thing any more.
At least a regular Switch version of Metroid Prime 4 will also be available. Other options for playing those.
assholes
I think they know that.
They very well might!
Yeah, that’s what makes this whole “Don’t blame Nintendo, it’s tariffs!” idea BS. If that were the case, it would only be this expensive in the US. Considering there’s a Japan-only Switch 2 that’s less than $350, it’s pure greed.
TotK was the last time I anticipate Nintendo getting any money from me.
It has gone up because people will pay the price. The games industry makes money hand over fist and could charge far less and still make a good profit. It’s pure greed, but the consumer is ultimately to blame.
