+1 for PipePipe if you want quick updates + SponsorBlock. I switched from Tubular a few days ago, and it imported my Tubular export flawlessly.
You don’t necessarily need to use Obtanium though, the version on F-Droid has a built-in updater. But unfortunately the built-in updater isn’t automatic (just a pop up notification that takes you to the .apk download page), so I can see the convenience of Obtainium.

Well, wallet and needs. The 7900XTX is the best, but I’d never recommend it to someone who only plays decade-old games, or even simpler modern games.
If you want a good idea of how GPUs compare to each other, the Tom’s Hardware GPU hierarchy is a great source. Just keep in mind that on linux specifically, NVIDIA has a bit more of a performance drop compared to AMD. Comparing the 3090 and 6800XT on that chart vs. Tom’s hardware, seems to be roughly 5%-7% more of a dip

I don’t think it’s possible to filter the trending games that way, but you can filter the all-time highest rated games that way by using the “Platforms” filter in instant search: https://steamdb.info/instantsearch/?refinementList[oslist][0]=Steam Deck Verified&refinementList[oslist][1]=Steam Deck Playable
It also has an option to filter the search by year(s) and by number of ratings/followers, so you could select the current and/or previous year to see what has been trending well-received and popular in the (relatively) short-term.

There are some story-rich RPG shooters that are almost pre-2010 I could recommend, like maybe Dishonored or Fallout 3/New Vegas. But pre-2010 is tough, only ones I can think of are the System Shock or maybe Thief games.
I got NV modded up through the Viva New Vegas guide, so hopefully that fixes the crashes for me. Figuring out how to mod it on linux was surprisingly easy too, thanks to the MO2 linux installer on github.

You could probably play the SCS Truck Simulator games basically indefinitely.
Vampire Survivors is an absurdly addicting Deck game, and can be considered grindy if you go for the eggs late-game.
Deep Rock Galactic is a good one too, if you’re okay with no aim assist and playing solo or with randoms.

Yes, a lot of games work fine without precompiled shaders. Others, like Apex Legends or Rocket League, are a complete mess (at least for the first few minutes of gameplay - it used to be much worse but DXVK 2.0 helped a lot with this). You’ve probably just only tried the games that work fine.
“Having to deal with pre-shader work” that you mentioned is a good thing. Without it, games will stutter more. And you always have the option to skip it or disable it entirely.
But otherwise, it’s a classic delimma:

-Entropy : Zero 2 on desktop

When adjusted the way the article has stated, moving your head slightly to see the lines is trivial.
Plus, being parked slightly off-center or dinging a car in a parking lot is nowhere near as bad as causing a potentially deadly crash by merging into another car at high-speed.
