  • Get yourself the Pinecil V2. It’s cheap, open software and open hardware, works with USB-C so you can power it with a power bank with Quick Charge or Power Delivery, and it works beautifully. The tips are admittedly not cheap, but they’re great because the ceramic element is welded to the metal so the heat is transferred quick and efficiently. Oh, and they sell the spare parts. AFAIK you can get it directly at Pine64’s website, but probably also on Ali.

  • Deficit is a good thing for the most part. It literally means by definition the government is putting more money into the economy than it’s extracting, which increases the capacity of families and businesses to save and to spend. Surplus means, by definition, that it’s collecting more money from the economy than it’s reinvesting into it, which literally, by definition, makes people poorer.

The problem isn’t with deficit itself, public expenditure is cool, the problem is where it’s spent. We want fewer corporate bailouts and fewer corruption schemes, and more investment in education, healthcare and pensions.

  • The events that led to the conquest of northern Africa by Arabs took place what, 1000+ years ago? You can hardly argue that “Arabs are colonialists” in modern times by judging 1000+ years old historical events, in the same way you probably wouldn’t judge modern Greek people as colonialists because they speak an Indo-European language and Indo-European languages are spoken all over the continent of Europe and much beyond.

  • Not how it works. Public transport isn’t dying due to lack of demand, it’s dying because of neoliberal policy and budget cuts in government spending are the norm for the past 30 years. As an example, in Tallinn public transport is free to use for all residents. 90% of residents agree that this is a good thing. Their government is going to drop it anyway.

Even taking into account a little traffic I’d still spend 2x times the amount of time going to work compared to going by car. Not to mention it’d cost about 20-30% of my net wage to do so daily.

So you agree that public transit is underfunded and shitty? That was exactly my point.
