One that is nothing but positive: you can edit post titles and use limited markdown in them.
One that’s done as much good as it’s done harm: polycentric moderation. One instance can’t enforce its own community rules on others. It protects lemmy.blahaj.zone from bigots, but it’s also why Lemmygrad exists.

I use an older APC Back-UPS 500 to power my homelab and all network devices. So far it’s saved me from 3 power outages, and can last about 30 minutes with a 50W power draw. It doesn’t have data connections of its own (newer devices do), so I had to improvise with an ESP32 board that reports if it detects a voltage on the beeper, plus some cron jobs on Proxmox.
I simply use Nextcloud to sync the vault directory. It has clients for both desktop and mobile and works perfectly fine. I use it to sync basically everything between my work, home, laptop, and mobile.
The only drawback is that I don’t know if Obsidian automatically reloads a file if it is changed - if not, and you leave the file open in the editor, you might accidentally overwrite the new file with old data.
A bus that couldn’t get over a small incline because of fresh snow on top of ice and had to be pushed by the passengers and pedestrians. It’s odd because it happened in Europe in a city where buses are particularly well-maintained.
Being the more virtuous party doesn’t work, so yes. Yes to all of the dirty tricks, including extralegal. Anything to preserve some kind of sanity because the alternative is unacceptable.
Obsidian also operates a paid cloud storage and public hosting service. Releasing the client for free is a way to gain good publicity and hook new customers, but making it open-source (or even nonfree source-available) would make adapting it to a different storage service trivial, which would hurt Obsidian’s business.
If you want a similar markdown editor, Obsidian does much the same, but with a much nicer single-panel UI. The client is free (as in no-cost), but closed-source.
Microsoft made NTFS, but not even Windows uses it properly. For example, the : character is perfectly valid in NTFS file names, but not in Windows. If you mount an NTFS volume in Linux without specifying the windows_names option, you can very easily make it unusable in Windows. It’s a sick joke, but nobody’s laughing.
KeePassXC, or any kind of KeePass-compatible client. It uses strong encryption to store passwords, passkeys, and arbitrary data. Also does TOTP. Not using a password manager in current year is stupid.
QOwnNotes - a note-taking app that uses plain markdown files. None of that stupid metadata-inside-markdown-inside-database bullshit.

Veilguard doesn’t let you be an absolute dick the way Origins did. The story (what little I’ve seen) is filtered and sanitized like it’s meant for six-year-olds.
It also approaches sensitive topics, like the gender of one character, with the graceful and delicate touch of a fucking brick. If your character in Origins is a woman, Sten will bluntly comment on your role as a warrior, which is reflects the Qunari culture and their strict adherence to their norms. In Veilguard, a character blurts out “I’m non-binary by the way, I use pronouns” and another starts doing push-ups for accidentally misgendering them. It was fucking ridiculous.
Dragon Age Origins for the first time. I think I’m at the climax of the Redcliffe arc, and finally I understand why people call Veilguard “disneyfied”.

not have headlights turned on
Running lights, not headlights. Different things both practically and legally.
Yesterday I was paying attention specifically to the front lights of cars. Almost all cars that had license plates registered in the last ten years also had independent running lights. Mostly in the form of a white LED strip around or under the headlight cover, an element built into the headlight (e.g. a ring around the main lens in BMWs), or annoyingly, a separate amber-colored light that I often mistake for a turning signal.
Legally, running lights might not even exist at all where I live. Traffic laws (and common sense) require proper headlights to be used in any kind of reduced visibility condition.
Modern cars also tend to have daytime running lights that are switched on automatically when the ignition is turned on, and are meant purely for visibility.

Somebody made it this way years ago and there’s not enough demand to warrant the effort to change it. KDE Plasma is 16 years old. GNOME is 25. Some features are so deeply embedded in the spaghetti code that any significant change would result in a cascading break.
