snooggums@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•So if we're just good with careening into fascism 2.0 what does the future look like?English14·16 hours agoI have been voting against Republicans for nearly 30 years and still have yet to see Dems hit the brakes. They do let off the gas some of the time, and since they are the only ones who have a chance of winning they get the vote by default.
If voting wasn’t so quick and easy where I live it would be difficult to convince myself to put in the effort. It should be this easy everywhere.

Yes they do.
snooggums@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Would you take a short term job(1-2 months) over a local longer term that makes nearly 8months worth of salary??English3·2 days agoDepends on benefits, hours per week, and whether it is a negative for future employment.
Not really, because existing track would need to be retrofitted with all of the sensors and whatnot specific to automation. Then there would still need to be a large number of staff available to reroute trains when some run late or have issues, because trying to predict all of those situations is impossible.
Smaller rail systems are frequently automated, like light rail at airports and even some subway systems where minimal human oversight is enough to handle it when things don’t work perfectly.
The shortage of operators has a lot more to do with intentionally trying to ruin rail by cutting funding and putting in barriers to working. There are a ton of people who would enjoy being operators if it paid well and was a reliable position.
They have it because they spent more money on rail and less on highways compared to the US. They chose the better infrastructure.

snooggums@lemmy.worldto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Carbrain. Carbrain is why. They practically live in the damn things.English12·3 days agoYes, it was a cold and soggy mess, because I buy hotdogs from places where they are served fresh in a bun with condiments.
snooggums@lemmy.worldto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Carbrain. Carbrain is why. They practically live in the damn things.English62·4 days agoYou could just get better hot dogs, in fact - most hot dogs do not turn into “cold dogs” or become soggy or otherwise unpleasant in 4 minutes, honestly not even in an hour,
Have you ever had a hot dog on a bun with condiments, or are you just raw dogging it?
They weren’t mad about what he said, they were mad he was disrespectful to them.
snooggums@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How dumb of an idea would it be to become a throuple?English61·6 days agoOccasionally it works out.
Guess I’ll just spend all the time raising horses then.
I love taking public transport in the cities! So much more convenient than even cabs the vast, vast majority of time.
The rural community consisted of farms spread out miles apart in various directions across hilly terrain.
Overall solid meme content, but when when I lived in a rural area cars where what let us connect with the community because we were so spread out. When living in the city I was less connected to the community because I disliked my neighbors…
snooggums@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•After Israel and USA's bombing, wouldn't any supposed nuclear bombs go off if there were any?English30·11 days agoNuclear weapons require extremely specific events to successfully detonate, blowing them up with explosives will destroy the mechanisms that make it possible. It will most likely spread the nuclear fuel out though by breaking the shielding and structure that was keeping the radioactive material on the inside.
snooggums@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How often do thieves (and identity thieves) actually get caught and served justice? Are there actual examples of law enforcement actually doing anything? (Because I think most cops are just lazy)English20·11 days agoMost cops don’t do detective work because that isn’t their job. Most cops do grunt work like tickets, traffic, taking down statements and reports, etc. Detectives do the detective work.
Even if they did do good work, the prosecutor has to follow through with filing charges. The cop can get all the details but if the prosecutor doesn’t think they can win or get a plea then it doesn’t even matter what the cop does.
Which then circles back to why there are so many lazy and corrupt cops. They are only incentivized to do either the easy stuff like writing tickets or the high profile (rich people as victims) stuff because that is what the prosecutor follows up on. The prosecutor doesn’t want to hold cops responsible, because that is where the stuff they need for prosecuting people comes from.
Which is why we have lazy and corrupt cops. The system incentivizes both.

I normally enjoy some fireworks every year, but have zero interest this year.
