I hear you and definitely agree that many activities are more fun with company, but if I only did things when I had someone to do those things with, I’d never get to do anything, definitely never anything new. Why should I let the lack of companions prevent me from having the experience?

For example, I wanted to go crabbing, but none of my friends wanted to go, so I decided to go on my own, and got to share the experience with the other people out crabbing on the pier, and even exchanged phone numbers with one of them, so now I have someone to go with next time. I used to go out alone to bars, concerts, festivals, etc., all the time and always made new friends, in fact for a while I preferred doing some of those solo so that I could just totally get lost in the moment.

I’m pretty sure we have blackberry jam, but I’m not much of a jam person, so I can’t say so from personal experience. Although if we have the berries, I can’t see why we wouldn’t also have the jam. Looks like blackcurrants is probably what you were thinking of, although they’re technically available in the US now.

That sounds quite terrifying! I’m in a pretty urban environment, so I don’t think there’s any bears hanging out on my usual routes, only coyotes, but I will keep that in mind whenever I venture out of the city.

We absolutely have blackberries. In my neck of the woods, there’s apparently 2 species of blackberries, one of which is highly invasive. I was going for walks about a month ago, specifically routed to pass by as many wild blackberries as possible, and they were very delicious!

I’m pretty sure that you’re talking about applies when an employee lives in one state full time, but receives a paycheck from a company in a different state. They may live near the state line and commute across the border, or they may be fully remote, but either way, their work is consistently happening in the same location.

In this case, he’s working part time in California, and part time in Washington. The exact laws vary by state… in some states, your tax liability begins on the day you start working there, while others have a certain threshold, but I’m pretty sure he’s crossing whatever threshold there might be. So for the days that he’s working in Washington for a company based in Washington, Washington income taxes apply, and for the days he works from California, California income taxes apply.

Since Washington doesn’t have an income tax, and California does, he will still definitely have to file in California.

Well, there’s no income tax in Washington, but I think technically you’re supposed to pay based on where you physically work. So, if he’s only working 3/5 days in Washington, that’s only 60% of his salary that falls under Washington’s rules.

I’m not sure about compatibility with HA (saw this via /all), but I bought the Whynter ARC-14S and a Broadlink IR universal remote + sensor cable so that I could set up some automations and/or control the AC via my phone. I think any AC with an IR remote should work in that setup.

If you’re in an area that gets lots of poor air quality days while you’ll be running it (my area usually gets a few weeks of terrible air in August & September due to wildfires), a dual hose AC is definitely worthwhile.

I still use Craigslist, but it does seem like fewer other people do. I’ve never really cared to get top dollar for whatever I list, I mostly just want to avoid tossing it in the garbage or hauling it to a donation drop off, and it’s worked well for that. In 2020, many people suddenly got to work from home, and while many have been unnecessarily forced to resume commuting, I’m curious what the numbers look like if you ignore workers who work from home? If I’m not required to be onsite for my job, why would I choose to live near my workplace? I read the linked article, and it kinda alludes to it, but doesn’t explicitly answer my question.

In your opinion, how should they be crediting it? I’m having trouble trying to imagine a good way that it could be credited within the song, and I can’t imagine very many people actually pay attention to the credits for music, especially when so few of us are buying physical copies anymore.

I’ve definitely experienced feeling annoyed at the new songs, but some have grown on me, and hearing the samples often leads me to add the original to my playlist. I’ve actually been having a lot of fun trying to see if I can name the original artist & song title whenever a new one pops up.

I can’t speak for all other animals, but I imagine it’s often for similar reasons as why they do it for cats: removing the hormones means they’re much less likely to display unwanted behaviors such as marking/spraying, territorial aggression (fighting) towards other cats, and roaming. Those behaviors all stem from the desire to mate, and if they don’t have testosterone from the testicles, they don’t experience the desire to mate. Unless you don’t mind the smell of concentrated cat urine everywhere, adult male cats with testicles don’t make very great house pets.

With female cats, they completely remove the ovaries (rather than doing a tubal ligation) for similar reasons. If they did a tubal ligation instead, the cat would still go into heat, meaning lots of yowling and trying to escape, and an increased risk of marking/spraying, just no longer able to get pregnant. In my region, they also usually remove the uterus, but it appears that varies globally.
